Lebanon Mountain Trail

The Lebanon Mountain Trail (LMT) is a long-distance hiking trail in Lebanon. It extends from Qbaiyat in the north of Lebanon to Marjaayoun in the south, a 440 km (270 mi) path that transects more than 75 towns and villages at altitudes ranging from 600 to 2,000 meters (about 3,000-5,600 feet) above sea level. The LMT aims to showcase the natural beauty and cultural wealth of Lebanon’s mountains and to demonstrate the determination of the people of Lebanon to conserve their heritage. The trail brings communities closer together and expands economic opportunities in rural areas through environmentally and socially responsible tourism.

Famous quotes containing the words mountain and/or trail:

    There, on the mountain and the sky,
    On all the tragic scene they stare.
    One asks for mournful melodies;
    Accomplished fingers begin to play.
    Their eyes mid many wrinkles, their eyes,
    Their ancient, glittering eyes, are gay.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    And Change with hurried hand has swept these scenes:
    The woods have fallen, across the meadow-lot
    The hunter’s trail and trap-path is forgot,
    And fire has drunk the swamps of evergreens;
    Yet for a moment let my fancy plant
    These autumn hills again: the wild dove’s haunt,
    The wild deer’s walk: in golden umbrage shut,
    Frederick Goddard Tuckerman (1821–1873)
