Lebanese Passport

The Lebanese passport is issued to citizens of Lebanon for international travel.

"The Republic of Lebanon, Passport" is written on the cover page in both Arabic and French. The contents of the passport are in Arabic, French and English.

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar on December 18, 2009, contained an article concerning the Lebanese passport, where it was stated that the Lebanese minister of interior is studying the conditions and best measurements in order to announce a Lebanese Biometric Passport international tender. The Lebanese politicians decided to head toward the French companies and technologies especially that the old passports were issued by the French national printer ("Imprimerie Nationale") which demonstrated a worthwhile trust from the Lebanese Government for the privacy of the data and issuing process. Lebanese citizens are still waiting for the official announcement of the tender which will probably be announced in January 2010 while the process of issuing biometric passports will start in mid-2010 or early 2011.

The cabinet ministers council on September 14, 2011 authorized the Lebanese ministry of interior to sign a contract with the French national printer Imprimerie Nationale for acquiring new biometric passports. Currently, all Lebanese Nationals must hold the new biometric passport.
