Lead Shot - Non-lead Alternatives

Non-lead Alternatives

When hunters use lead shot, waterfowl such as ducks can ingest the spent pellets later and be poisoned. Predators that eat these birds are also at risk. Some jurisdictions (e.g., the Netherlands, wetlands in Britain, and wetlands as well as some upland hunting areas in North America), ban hunting with lead shot due to the metal's toxicity. For these places, non-lead alternatives are mandated such as steel, tungsten-nickel-iron, bismuth-tin, and tungsten-polymer.

Clearly, society has a tremendous stake in insisting on a woman’s natural fitness for the career of mother: the alternatives are all too expensive.
