Geography

Lavin has an area, as of 2006, of 46.2 km2 (17.8 sq mi). Of this area, 19.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 18.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (61.2%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

The municipality is located in the Sur Tasna sub-district of the Inn district on the left bank of the Inn river. It is the capital of the sub-district. It consists of the linear village of Lavin.
