Laughing Gas (improv) - History

History

Laughing Gas was founded in 1992 by Gerald (Gerry) Owens, G. Michael McKay, Buddy Bolton, Sal Pisani, Linda Jarvis and Christopher Carlyle, all former cast members of Mental Floss, a Miami-based improv/sketch troupe, which performed from 1986-1992 at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Mental Floss closed its doors in 1992 due the economic downturn in Miami's Coconut Grove area after Hurricane Andrew.

In 1995, the group changed their name to Laughing Gas (which had once been the name of the midnight Mental Floss show, previously known as Experimental Floss).

Though Laughing Gas has gone through numerous personnel changes throughout the years, Gerald Owens is the only remaining founding member still actively performing in the troupe. Owens also is the group's head instructor and teaches weekly improv classes.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

My good friends, this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And now I recommend you to go home and sleep quietly in your beds.
    Neville Chamberlain (1869–1940)

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large
Unfinished concepts that can never bring themselves to the point
Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

We said that the history of mankind depicts man; in the same way one can maintain that the history of science is science itself.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)
