Latvian Humour

Latvian humour often includes jokes from different places around the world.

Latvian humour music is full of great artists and comedians. Some of best examples are Balāde par gulbi by Pērkons (band), many songs by Labvēlīgais Tips led by Andris Freidenfelds (also known as Fredis), songs by Kaspars Upaciers (also known as UFO), "Bet Bet" managed by Zigfrīds Muktupāvels and many more comedic music groups. A good example of a band in this genre is Brāļi Laivinieki (Boatman brothers) that played before 1940. They sang mainly about everyday life, love, the rich and the poor, etc. using humorous puns.

Latvians find it more funny to play around with words, twist one's words and turn them into an inside or dirty joke on the fly before one finishes speaking, still preserving neutrality (double entendre).

Famous quotes containing the word humour:

The difference between farce and humour in literature is, I suppose, that farce strums louder and louder on one string, while humour varies its note, changes its key, grows and spreads and deepens until it may indeed reach tragic depths.
