This is a list of the largest urban areas of Norway by population.
The population is measured by Statistics Norway. The statistics bureau uses the term tettsted (urban settlement or urban area), which is defined as a contiguous built-up area with a maximum distance of 50 m between houses unless a greater distance is caused by public areas, cemeteries or similar reasons. Furthermore, to obtain tettsted-status, the area must have at least 200 inhabitants.
Using this definition, there are 919 urban areas in Norway.
Some urban areas in Norway have witnessed conurbation and grown together.

Famous quotes containing the words largest, urban, areas and/or norway:
“Given for one instant an intelligence which could comprehend all the forces by which nature is animated and the respective positions of the beings which compose it, if moreover this intelligence were vast enough to submit these data to analysis, it would embrace in the same formula both the movements of the largest bodies in the universe and those of the lightest atom; to it nothing would be uncertain, and the future as the past would be present to its eyes.”
—Pierre Simon De Laplace (17491827)
“And New York is the most beautiful city in the world? It is not far from it. No urban night is like the night there.... Squares after squares of flame, set up and cut into the aether. Here is our poetry, for we have pulled down the stars to our will.”
—Ezra Pound (18851972)
“The planet on which we live is poorly organized, many areas are overpopulated, others are reserved for a few, technologys potential is only in part realized, and most people are starving.”
—Friedrich Dürrenmatt (19211990)
“Such was the very armor he had on
When he the ambitious Norway combated.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
