Larcena Pennington Page

Larcena Pennington Page, or Larcena Ann Pennington Page Scott, (January 10, 1837-March 31, 1913) was a member of a well known family of American pioneers. She is most remembered for her kidnapping by hostile Apache natives in Arizona. Larcena was captured on March 16, 1860, with her young student, near Madera Canyon and left for dead later that day. After her kidnapping, Larcena was indirectly involved in several other incidents with Apaches, much of her family were either killed by the natives or died of disease.

Famous quotes containing the word page:

A book is like a man—clever and dull, brave and cowardly, beautiful and ugly. For every flowering thought there will be a page like a wet and mangy mongrel, and for every looping flight a tap on the wing and a reminder that wax cannot hold the feathers firm too near the sun.
    John Steinbeck (1902–1968)
