Lanxess - History

History

Lanxess’ roots can be traced back to 1863, the year in which Friedrich Bayer & Co. was founded as a manufacturer of synthetic dyestuffs. In 2004, Bayer, seeking to focus its business on healthcare and nutrition, spun off most of its chemicals business and roughly one-third of its polymers business into an independent subsidiary named Lanxess. Shares in Lanxess AG began to trade on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on January 31, 2005, at which time each shareholder of Bayer was issued one share of stock in Lanxess.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of every country begins in the heart of a man or a woman.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)

We are told that men protect us; that they are generous, even chivalric in their protection. Gentlemen, if your protectors were women, and they took all your property and your children, and paid you half as much for your work, though as well or better done than your own, would you think much of the chivalry which permitted you to sit in street-cars and picked up your pocket- handkerchief?
Mary B. Clay, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 3, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

The history of men’s opposition to women’s emancipation is more interesting perhaps than the story of that emancipation itself.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
