    Weaker and weaker, the sunlight falls
    In the afternoon. The proud and the strong

    The finally human,
    Natives of a dwindled sphere.
    —Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    of you i
    sing: land of Abraham Lincoln and Lydia E. Pinkham,
    land above all of Just Add Hot Water And Serve—
    from every B. V. D.

    let freedom ring
    —E.E. (Edward Estlin)

    Whatever an author puts between the two covers of his book is public property; whatever of himself he does not put there is his private property, as much as if he had never written a word.
    —Gail Hamilton (1833–1896)

    Heat, ma’am! It was so dreadful here that I found there was nothing left for it but to take off my flesh and sit in my bones.
    —Sydney Smith (1771–1845)

    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
