Green Day
The school celebrates "Green Day" - a tradition which encourages students and staff to dress in green to show support for environmental awareness. The celebration includes a concert which usually involves performances by the staff and students, competitions and a "best dressed" contest which awards prizes to the students who are wearing the most green. Other schools within the area have begun to embrace the Green Day tradition, making Lambton High School well known throughout Newcastle. The local ABC radio station broadcasts information about the event annually.
In 2007, the Green Day slogan was "Keep on Rockin' For a Green World" and the focus was on climate change and global warming.
In 2008, the Green Day slogan was "Be Cool to Our World" focusing on issues of Waste and Recycling. Students developed their own pseudo-catchphrase for the event; "Tree on".
In 2009, the Green Day slogan was "Tread Lightly" a reference to the Australian Aborigines, particularly the Awabakal people who are renowned for caring for the local environment.
Green Day 2010 is to be celebrated on Friday 25 June. The theme is biodiversity which is to be carried by the slogan "We are all in this together".

“O Paddy dear, an did ye hear the news thats goin round?
The shamrock is by law forbid to grow on Irish ground!
No more Saint Patricks Day well keep, his colour cant be seen,
For theres a cruel law agin the wearin o the Green!”

“And though the shady gloom
Had given day her room,
The sun himself withheld his wonted speed,
And hid his head for shame,
As his inferior flame
The new-enlightened world no more should need;
He saw a greater Sun appear
Than his bright throne or burning axle-tree could bear.”
—John Milton (16081674)
