Lalkurti - Mosques, Churches and Temples

Mosques, Churches and Temples

There are four to five mosques and a couple of churches (St. Joseph's Cathedral and Christ Church) in the locality. The Christian minority and the Muslims have always lived in exemplary cohesion. Christ Church, built in 1852, is one of the oldest buildings of Rawalpindi cantonment.

There are a few temples in Lalkurti which are a reminder of the Hindu population that lived here before partition. These temples are now in disuse and have been annexed into the neighbouring houses. The only temple being used for worship by a small presently existing Hindu population is the Balmik temple.

Mosques
  • Jamia Masjid Hanafiyah
  • Markazi Jamia Masjid
  • Madinah Masjid
  • MVH, Bilal Masj
  • Jamia Masjid Al-Bushra Indus Road.

This mosque has been constructed by an elderly lady, Ms Bushra Begum and is named after her.

Famous quotes containing the words churches and/or temples:

Good churches are not built by bad men; at least, there must be probity and enthusiasm somewhere in the society. These minsters were neither built nor filled by atheists.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Goddesses never die. They slip in and out of the world’s cities, in and out of our dreams, century after century, answering to different names, dressed differently, perhaps even disguised, perhaps idle and unemployed, their official altars abandoned, their temples feared or simply forgotten.
    Phyllis Chesler (b. 1941)
