On October 26, 1926, Architect Frank Lloyd Wright was arrested for violating the Mann Act while vacationing at a cottage in Tonka Bay, Minnesota with a woman who would later become his wife.

On October 6, 2005, Lake Minnetonka gained national attention due to the scandal, in which members of the Minnesota Vikings football team allegedly performed and received sexual favors for and from a variety of individuals during a cruise on a pair of chartered yachts, leading to widespread criticism of the players and embarrassment within the organization.
