Lae - Health Care

Health Care

For visitors, ensure you have good health insurance. Lae Internnational Hospital is of good developing world standard. It is a 19 bed facility with 1 emergency bed. It has 6 doctors, one General Practitioner, Anaesthetist, Surgeon and radiologist and two Obstetricians. All doctors are from the Philippines and all nurses our local nationals.

The other private hospital is Tusa Private Hospital (corner of Huon Rd and 13th St). There is also a public hospital called Angau Memorial Hospital located on Markham Road.

For travelers to Lae, they should seek expert medical advice regarding malaria prophylaxis as well as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis and Typhoid vaccinations. Of note there was a significant outbreak of Cholera based in the Morobe District in 2009 and consideration of vaccination would be prudent.

Famous quotes containing the words health and/or care:

However strongly they resist it, our kids have to learn that as adults we need the companionship and love of other adults. The more direct we are about our needs, the easier it may be for our children to accept those needs. Their jealousy may come from a fear that if we adults love each other we might not have any left for them. We have to let them know that it’s a different kind of love.
—Ruth Davidson Bell. Ourselves and Our Children, by Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, ch. 3 (1978)

    My lord endures
much care of mind.He remembers too often
a happier dwelling.Woe be to them
that for a loved onemust wait in longing.
    —Unknown. The Wife’s Lament (l. 50–53)
