Marie Josephine Agnes Edwards was born at Dovercourt, Essex on Tuesday, 19 December 1882, to James Andrew Edwards and his wife, Kate Marion Agnes MacNamara.

On Wednesday, 26 April 1905 at St. George's, Hanover Square at the age of 22, she married Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Herbert Andrew Montagu Douglas Scott, son of Sir William Henry Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch & 8th Duke of Queensberry and Lady Louisa Jane Hamilton, VA, Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria, and third daughter of the 1st Duke of Abercorn. The couple had three children:

  • Colonel Claud Andrew Montagu Douglas Scott (13 July 1906 - 24 January 1971)
  • Marian Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott (16 June 1908 - 11 December 1996)
  • Patricia Katherine Montagu Douglas Scott (b. 9 October 1910, still living December 2012), thrice married, lastly to her late second husband's older brother, the 11th Earl of Dundee, and is mother of the present Earl and several other children.
