Cultural

As a gift to the city of Quebec for its 400th anniversary, La Maison Simons offered a restored fountain, imported from France. The fountain was originally positioned in Bordeaux's Allées de Tourny, named after Aubert Tourny, a French intendant remembered for his contribution to the beautification of Bordeaux, Quebec City's sister city. The Fontaine de Tourny, which was built in the mid-19th century, won a gold medal at the Paris world exposition of 1855. The fountain was installed in front of the Quebec provincial legislature in April 2007.

In August 2008, the retailer chose to withdraw its fall catalogue after complaints its models were too thin.

Famous quotes containing the word cultural:

A culture may be conceived as a network of beliefs and purposes in which any string in the net pulls and is pulled by the others, thus perpetually changing the configuration of the whole. If the cultural element called morals takes on a new shape, we must ask what other strings have pulled it out of line. It cannot be one solitary string, nor even the strings nearby, for the network is three-dimensional at least.
    Jacques Barzun (b. 1907)

Unfortunately there is still a cultural stereotype that it’s all right for girls to be affectionate but that once boys reach six or seven, they no longer need so much hugging and kissing. What this does is dissuade boys from expressing their natural feelings of tenderness and affection. It is important that we act affectionately with our sons as well as our daughters.
    Stephanie Martson (20th century)

To recover the fatherhood idea, we must fashion a new cultural story of fatherhood. The moral of today’s story is that fatherhood is superfluous. The moral of the new story must be that fatherhood is essential.
    David Blankenhorn (20th century)
