With a population of 1,989,062 in 2012, Kumasi is the largest city in the Ashanti Kingdom and the largest city of Akanland. The largest and native ethnic group is the Akan sub-group of Ashanti. Approximately 70% of Kumasi population are Akanists, 28% Atheists, with a smaller number of adherents 2% to Islam.
