City Centre
Kulim still maintains shop houses that were around since before the Second World War. Unfortunately, many of these houses were demolished to make way for newer structures of development. The independence clock serves as the city’s landmark, and is one of the old structures that remain in place.

Famous quotes containing the words city and/or centre:
“half-way up the hill, I see the Past
Lying beneath me with its sounds and sights,
A city in the twilight dim and vast,
With smoking roofs, soft bells, and gleaming lights,
And hear above me on the autumnal blast
The cataract of Death far thundering from the heights.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (18091882)
“Here in the centre stands the glass. Light
Is the lion that comes down to drink. There
And in that state, the glass is a pool.
Ruddy are his eyes and ruddy are his claws
When light comes down to wet his frothy jaws”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
