New Kronk Gym
In the past few years, the kronk has relocated to a new facility in a store front on West warren ave.
The abandoned Kronk Gym in Detroit may see new life under a proposal to renovate the battered two-story building and revive the area around it. The effort is again being spearheaded by Emanuel Steward, the gym's legendary trainer. However, after Steward's recent death, the future of Kronk Gym is uncertain, as Steward's sister, Diane Steward-Jones removed everything from the gym just a day after Steward's death “to safeguard the legacy” of Steward and prevent thefts of memorabilia of the gym. Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns who trained in Kronk Gym and became a boxing world champ, stated “I don't know when and if we'll be open here again. I hope something good will happen.”
