There are three bridges across the Godavari River linking Kovvuru with Rajahmundry. The oldest of these was built by Sir Arthur Cotton and is over a hundred years old. Subsequently, a rail-cum-road bridge was built and most recently, another exclusive rail bridge was built for the Indian Railways after which the oldest bridge is retired. The rail-cum-road bridge is the longest rail-cum road bridge in Asia.Another road bridge linking Kovvur with Rajahmundry is under construction now and like to be completed in the year 2012.

Andhra Sugars company, which has a branch in Kovvuru is one of the oldest companies in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It was set up a few days before India gained its independence in 1947. One more industry in this place is Avanti Feeds Ltd., which has two branches in the town. Although both these factories at two opposite ends of the city, they have been causing severe pollution for many years and yet no action has been taken so far.

In the recent assembly elections Kovvuru was the only constituency in West Godavari won by the Telugu Desam Party. In the 1999 assembly elections, it was the only constituency in West Godavari won by Congress Party.

There are many small villages surrounding this simple town, viz., Vadapalli, Thougummi, Pasivedala, Dommeru, etc., A tour to all these lush green villages will give a glimpse of the agricultural economy the entire region has been dependent on. Pasivedala is 5 KM away and its name also has similar origins as Kovvuru. (Pasuvu means Cow in Telugu. Vedana means struggle). Later English people named it as Pasivedala.

One ancient temple, the Sarswathi Mandiramu, is near the factory on the banks of river Godavari. There is a big group of temples located near Factory : Sivalayam, Gayatridevi temple, Ramalayam, Krishna temple, Shirdi Saibaba temple, Gayatri Gosala One of the most renowned Goudeeya Mathamu is situated in this small town opposite to the "Lanchila Revu" near the banks of River Godavari, where lot of Krishna's "Bhajanalu" and "Parayanamulu" will take place each and every day. Sri Venkateswara swamy Temple is located near the toll-gate at Road-cum-Rail bridge. It is very pleasant temple to visit.

This town has autos and rickshaw walas hiring for a very less price. The Kovvur railway station has 3 platforms which are very huge and sufficiently designed without any wastage of space and newly Kovvur- "Badhrachalam Road" route has been launched by the great effort of our Ex C.M., Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, under Congress government and hence in the future days to come it will become a junction. Kovvur is an ideal town for industrial/residential/tourism/agricultural development. The town is nearer to the Rajahmundry city so the development is very good. It is close to the papi hills so tourists can visit these places around the town.

Development has been quite fast during the past few years and trend of urbanization has been settling in . Many apartments are being built and they are sold as hotcakes implying that many people are willing to settle here.
