Koffler Centre of The Arts - Leadership and Funding

Leadership and Funding

The Board of Directors is chaired by Tiana Koffler Boyman. Jill Reitman is Vice Chair. From 2006 to 2013, Lori Starr was the Executive Director. Starr is former Senior Vice President and Museum Director, Skirball Cultural Center (2001–2006) and former Director of Public Affairs and Communications, the J. Paul Getty Museum and J. Paul Getty Trust, Los Angeles (1986–2001). Lori also served as Vice President for Culture, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, and led a project to create Canada's first Jewish museum.

In February 2013, Starr announced that she was leaving the Koffler Centre of the Arts and Toronto after a seven year tenure, accepting the position of Executive Director of the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco to begin in June 2013. Under the leadership of Board Chair Tiana Koffler Boyman and Vice Chair Jill Reitman, the Koffler Centre of the Arts Board of Directors is forming a Search Committee to recruit Starr's successor.

The Koffler Centre of the Arts is supported and funded by its patrons, members, donors, corporate sponsors, and the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. CIBC Wood Gundy is the Koffler's Cultural Season Sponsor. The Koffler Gallery is supported by the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. The Koffler Centre of the Arts also receives annual support from the Ontario Arts Council through the Community and Multidisciplinary Arts Organizations Program.

Fundraising to support the Koffler’s diverse programs is achieved through several charitable events and galas. Two fundraisers in 2009, ARTFUL DISH and The Wrecking Ball, were catalysts to support expansion of programs and reach new audience members and patrons. In 2010, the ballet gala Stars of the 21st Century was the Koffler's major fundraiser.

In 2012, the Koffler partnered with Luminato, Toronto's Festival of Arts and Creativity, to present the opening night of Batsheva Dance Company's North American premiere performance of Sadeh21. Funds raised from the evening supported the Koffler Centre of the Arts and its programs. The evening included a pre-performance dinner at a private residence for Koffler patrons, the contemporary dance performance of Sadeh21 at the MacMillan Theatre, University of Toronto, and a post-event celebration at the Gardiner Museum. The evening also honoured Senator Linda Frum and Howard Sokolowski for their philanthropic support of the arts.

Funding is directed to educating youth and supplementing the Ontario Educational Curriculum, educating adults and enhancing arts appreciation, creating new opportunities for outstanding international & Canadian exhibitions and cultural performances, highlighting contemporary Jewish culture, building community awareness and understanding, and encouraging cultural dialogue.

Famous quotes containing the words leadership and and/or leadership:

A woman who occupies the same realm of thought with man, who can explore with him the depths of science, comprehend the steps of progress through the long past and prophesy those of the momentous future, must ever be surprised and aggravated with his assumptions of leadership and superiority, a superiority she never concedes, an authority she utterly repudiates.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

The liberal wing of the feminist movement may have improved the lives of its middle- and upper-class constituency—indeed, 1992 was the Year of the White Middle Class Woman—but since the leadership of this faction of the feminist movement has singled out black men as the meta-enemy of women, these women represent one of the most serious threats to black male well-being since the Klan.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
