Knight's Cross of The Iron Cross - Law About Titles, Orders and Honorary Signs

Law About Titles, Orders and Honorary Signs

The German Law about Titles, Orders and Honorary Signs (German language: Gesetz über Titel, Orden und Ehrenzeichen) (BGBl. I S. 334) regulates the wearing of the Knight's Cross in post World War II Germany. The reason for this is that German law prohibits wearing a swastika, so on 26 July 1957 the West German government authorized replacement Knight's Crosses with an Oak Leaf Cluster in place of the swastika, similar to the Iron Crosses of 1813, 1870 and 1914, which could be worn by World War II Knight's Cross recipients.

Famous quotes containing the words law, orders and/or signs:

Lawyers are necessary in a community. Some of you ... take a different view; but as I am a member of that legal profession, or was at one time, and have only lost standing in it to become a politician, I still retain the pride of the profession. And I still insist that it is the law and the lawyer that make popular government under a written constitution and written statutes possible.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

There are nine orders of angels, to wit, angels, archangels, virtues, powers, principalities, dominations, thrones, cherubim, and seraphim.
Gregory the Great, Pope (c. 540–604)

One of the signs of passing youth is the birth of a sense of fellowship with other human beings as we take our place among them.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
