Knick-Ei - Compensation and Total Cost

Compensation and Total Cost

On April 17, 2007, a court in Schleswig ruled, based on expert testimony, that the collapses in 1997 and 1998 were due to flaws in the construction design developed by Schlaich, Bergermann & Partner. A settlement was reached, awarding the city of Halstenbek 80% of the approximately 2.7 million Euros lost due to the collapses. From initial planning to demolition, the city spent approximately 9 million Euro.

Another flaw of the dome-shaped roof was apparent ever since it was temporarily completed in 1998: the large glass panes at the lower end of the dome reflected sunlight towards the neighbouring houses, even after the dome collapsed. The city therefore had the glass panes causing the reflections spraypainted black.

Famous quotes containing the words compensation and, compensation, total and/or cost:

I do not want to be covetous, but I think I speak the minds of many a wife and mother when I say I would willingly work as hard as possible all day and all night, if I might be sure of a small profit, but have worked hard for twenty-five years and have never known what it was to receive a financial compensation and to have what was really my own.
Emma Watrous, U.S. inventor. As quoted in Feminine Ingenuity, ch. 8, by Anne L. MacDonald (1992)

I have everything in the world that is necessary to happiness, good faith, good friends and all the work I can possibly do. I think God’s greatest blessing to the human race was when He sent man forth into the world to earn his bread by the sweat of his face. I believe in toil, in the dignity of labor, but I also believe in adequate compensation for that toil.
    Anna Howard Shaw (1847–1919)

Nothing is so perfectly amusing as a total change of ideas.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)

Oh high is the price of parenthood,
And daughters may cost you double.
You dare not forget, as you thought you could,
That youth is a plague and a trouble.
    Phyllis McGinley (20th century)
