Kirtlington Park

Kirtlington Park, a Grade I listed 18th-century Palladian country house, is about 0.5 miles (800 m) east of the village. It is set in 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) of parkland, landscaped by "Capability" Brown, with views over the gardens to the Chiltern Hills. During the Second World War, the park was used as a Victory garden. It is now used as a wedding venue.

Linnæus, setting out for Lapland, surveys his “comb” and “spare shirt,” “leathern breeches” and “gauze cap to keep off gnats,” with as much complacency as Bonaparte a park of artillery for the Russian campaign. The quiet bravery of the man is admirable.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
