Public Houses
The lack of a public house on the north east fringes of Wetherby means many residents of these areas use the Bay Horse in Kirk Deighton. The Bay Horse was originally two public houses, The Bay Horse and The Grey Hound. The party wall was removed and they became one pub under the name The Bay Horse. Until the early 1990s, Kirk Deighton had another pub, the Alpine Lodge, a Samuel Smith's pub situated on the A1. This was closed for many years until an arson attack in the 2000s saw the building demolished.

Famous quotes containing the words public and/or houses:
“Religious fervor makes the devil a very real personage, and anything awe-inspiring or not easily understood is usually connected with him. Perhaps this explains why, not only in the Ozarks but all over the State, his name crops up so frequently.”
—Administration in the State of Miss, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“The name of the town isnt important. Its the one thats just twenty-eight minutes from the big city. Twenty-three if you catch the morning express. Its on a river and its got houses and stores and churches. And a main street. Nothing fancy like Broadway or Market, just plain Broadway. Drug, dry good, shoes. Those horrible little chain stores that breed like rabbits.”
—Joseph L. Mankiewicz (19091993)
