Kingsley Covered Bridge

The Kingsley Covered Bridge (also called the Mill River Bridge) is a wooden covered bridge in Clarendon, Vermont. Built in 1836 by Timothy K. Horton, the bridge is a town lattice style with a 120-foot (37 m) span across the Mill River. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It is located west of Vermont Route 103 and just under the landing strip for the Rutland Airport on East Street Extension off Gorge Road, a paved road that turns to dirt after passing the bridge. It is a single lane bridge and is right next to the Kingsley Grist Mill and Mill Houses, all beautifully restored with informational plaques. The bridge is restricted to handling 3 tons and has an eleven foot ceiling. It is a big tourist attraction with many tours and travelers stopping frequently to snap photos. The bridge is a reminder of the old Vermont and is well taken care of, a true state treasure.

Famous quotes containing the words covered and/or bridge:

They say the seeds of what we will do are in all of us, but it always seemed to me that in those who make jokes in life the seeds are covered with better soil and with a higher grade of manure.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

Oh, who will now be able to relate how Pantagruel behaved in face of these three hundred giants! Oh my muse, my Calliope, my Thalie, inspire me now, restore my spirits, because here is the ass’s bridge of logic, here is the pitfall, here is the difficulty of being able to describe the horrible battle undertaken.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)
