Kinepolis

The Kinepolis Group is a Belgian chain of movie theatres conceived in 1997 which consist of 23 Cinema complexes in Europe, representing a total of 317 theatres. They received about 22 million visitors in 2008. Kinepolis is listed on the Brussels stock exchange.

The first megaplex cinema in the world is generally considered to be Kinepolis Brussels located near the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium, which opened in 1988 with 25 screens.

Previously it was owned and run by two families named Bert and Claeys. Recently the latter have withdrawn from the company, leaving Joost Bert as co-CEO, together with Eddy Duquenne (eaqually co-CEO). This change was in effect from Jan 1st, 2008.
