Khartoum International Community School

Khartoum International Community School (KICS) is a private English medium International School established by DAL Group in 2004. Located on a purpose-built campus in the Hai El Raqi area south of Khartoum, Sudan, KICS caters for students from age of 3 to 18 years, providing the International Baccalaureate curriculum.

KICS is the first school in Sudan to gain international accreditation as an IB World School in 2006. KICS is also accredited by the Universities of Cambridge and London to offer IGCSE examinations for students in Year 11. In addition to its academic programmes, KICS offers a diverse range of extra-curricular activities and its facilities allow students a rich sports programme.

The school teams compete internationally in a range of sports as well as representing the school at a variety of international conferences and academic pursuits.

KICS is a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa.

KICS has also been awarded accreditation by the prestigious Council of International Schools (CIS). This was achieved only 5 years after the opening of the school and is a testament to the hard work of all the KICS administration, teachers and staff members. CIS accreditation does not only look at areas of teaching and learning but scrutinizes all areas of the school's operations. This includes health and safety, human resources, school governance, philosophy and the school's community. The award of CIS accreditation is an internationally recognized quality mark showing that KICS is a school that aspires to the highest possible standards.

KICS is the first and only school in Sudan to have achieved both CIS accreditation and authorization by the International Baccalaureate to offer the IB Diploma and Primary Years programmes.

As at 10/1/2011, 2010/11 school year, KICS now has 416 students; an increase of 78.55% from 2005/06 school year. KICS currently employs 124 staff of which there are 59 faculty and 23 teaching assistants.

It has been an IB World school since March 2007. It also offers the IGCSE. KICS is a member of the CIS.

Famous quotes containing the words community and/or school:

Jesus would recommend you to pass the first day of the week rather otherwise than you pass it now, and to seek some other mode of bettering the morals of the community than by constraining each other to look grave on a Sunday, and to consider yourselves more virtuous in proportion to the idleness in which you pass one day in seven.
    Frances Wright (1795–1852)

The scope of modern government in what it can and ought to accomplish for its people has been widened far beyond the principles laid down by the old “laissez faire” school of political rights, and the widening has met popular approval.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
