Gumbs is married to an Australian woman and has two daughters living in St Kitts. He is a highly focused and competitive individual, traits that have enabled his success internationally. Gumbs constantly maintains his fitness through rigorous training and healthy eating. At 37 he is in peak physical condition and shows no signs of slowing down. Gumbs recovered from a knee injury that required an operation while playing for Panionios fc in Greece in a match against PAOK, but has not suffered any major injuries since that time. He intends to play for as long as he is scoring goals, such is his love of the game. At 38 he is still playing at the highest level in the Indonesia Super League, where he has won one championship with his team Sriwijaya. They have also appeared in the Asian Champions league and AFC Cup from 2008/09 - 2011.
