Sayambhu Sinha was a leader of the Indian National Congress. Rabindra Nath Chaterjee, the regional head of Indian National Congress and the ex-municipal chairperson, is regarded as the founder of New Katwa. Dr. Harmohan Singa is a well-known doctor and social worker of the region. He established Anandanikatan, a hospital for the mentally retarded patients.
