From 1984 to 1997, Mattea recorded for Mercury Records, the label with which she achieved her greatest commercial success. Four of her songs went to number one on the country music charts: "Goin' Gone", "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses", "Come from the Heart" and "Burnin' Old Memories". On this same chart, she sent twelve more singles into the top ten.
