Kathua - Army Presence

Army Presence

Because of its close proximity to the Pakistan border, Kathua has a significant Indian Army presence in the surrounding areas. The Army was sheltered at Kathua during militancy in the state when the ultras used to cross the border and attacked innocent people. There have been many attacks in the region. During the summers of 2001, four terrorists attacked a matadoor at Hiranagar killing 5 people. In 2003, three terrorists attacked a C.R.P.F camp in front of District Hospital killing 2 people. With the change in time conditions have improved and army is being recalled from the city.

Famous quotes containing the words army and/or presence:

My topic for Army reunions ... this summer: How to prepare for war in time of peace. Not by fortifications, by navies, or by standing armies. But by policies which will add to the happiness and the comfort of all our people and which will tend to the distribution of intelligence [and] wealth equally among all. Our strength is a contented and intelligent community.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

But the mother’s yearning, that completest type of the life in another life which is the essence of real human love, feels the presence of the cherished child even in the debased, degraded man.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
