The municipality Kastoria was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the following 9 former municipalities, that became municipal units:
- Agia Triada
- Agioi Anargyroi
- Kastoria
- Kastraki
- Kleisoura
- Korestia
- Makednoi
- Mesopotamia
- Vitsi
