Location
The town of Karuma is located on the Kigumba-Gulu Highway, immediately south of the location where the highway, crosses the River Nile. This location lies in Kiryandongo District. Bunyoro sub-region, Western Uganda. Karuma is located approximately 110 kilometres (68 mi), by road, northeast of Masindi and approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi), by road, south of Gulu. Karuma is also the location of Karuma Power Station, the largest hydropower project in Uganda, with a planned capacity of 600 MW, whose construction is planned to start in May 2012.
