Famous quotes containing the word work:
“... Washington was not only an important capital. It was a city of fear. Below that glittering and delightful surface there is another story, that of underpaid Government clerks, men and women holding desperately to work that some political pull may at any moment take from them. A city of men in office and clutching that office, and a city of struggle which the country never suspects.”
—Mary Roberts Rinehart (18761958)
“A poets work is to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it going to sleep.”
—Salman Rushdie (b. 1947)
“...I still have faith occasionally in the brotherhood of man, and in spite of all the tragedies that have intervened since [1945], believe that sometime, somehow, all the nations of the world can work together for the common good.”
—Virginia Crocheron Gildersleeve (18771965)
