Both the Hindu and Jain communities are actively involved in the municipal politics of Karanja. Maratha is the most dominant factor in Karanja elections. All communities coexist peacefully and with respect for each other's religious sentiments. Prakash Dahake is considered the most powerful politician from Karanja. He is also the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Karanja (Vidhan Sabha constituency). He belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party. Sanjay Kakade is the president of the municipal council.
