KANUPP-II

The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-II is also located at a Paradise Point, Karachi. The second unit is larger nuclear power plants with sole purpose of producing and generating electricity in Karachi. KANUPP-II's construction and development is an indigenous effort by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in conjunction with the federal government and the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA). The technology is similar to that of first KANUPP-I CANDU-Reactor. A PHWR-type reactor, the plant has total gross capacity of 1000 MW. The IAEA is also providing its additional assistance to PAEC in the construction of the plant, and like the first unit, the second reactor is under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection and its safeguards.
