Compositions of The Senate
- Resignations and new members are discussed in the Changes in membership section, below.
Kansas is one of the most GOP-leaning states in the country, and the Republicans have held a majority in the State Senate for decades. The Republicans as a whole currently hold a supermajority in the chamber. In practice, however, the Senate is governed by a coalition of Democrats and more moderate Republicans, in opposition to the conservative wing of the Republican Senators. However during the primaries many moderate Republicans were ousted effectively giving the conservative wing a majority.

Famous quotes containing the word senate:
“I think the Senate ought to realize that I have to have about me those in whom I have confidence; and unless they find a real blemish on a man, I do not think they ought to make partisan politics out of appointments to the Cabinet.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
