Kamal (director)
Kamaluddin Mohammed, usually credited as Kamal, is a Malayali Indian film director. His first film was Mizhineer Pookkal in 1986 and to date, he has directed more than 32 movies, among which include 2 non-malayalam movies, one each in Tamil and Hindi. Apart from his role as a director, Kamal was recently elected as the general secretary of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association). He is also the executive member of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy.
His films are popular for its music as well as the diversity in their theme. Though he appeared to have been lacking good creativity skills including screenplay writing coupled with dialogue writing skills, he somehow finds good writers in these areas and direct those films with ease. Many popular films such as Paavam Paavam Rajakumaran, "Mazhayethum Munpe", "Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayanu" etc. prove that the success of these films was just because of Sreenivasan - an unsung hero - who wrote the screenplay and dialogue for these films. Kamal has attempted in several genres of movies like comedy, romance, campus, drama, action etc. His prominent movies like Unnikale Oru Katha Parayam, Kakkothikavile Appooppan Thadikal, Thoovalsparsham, Ulladakam, Ee Puzhayam Kadannu, Meghamalhar, Madhuranombarakaattu, Perumazhakkalam and Karutha Pakshikal are considered good movies in Malayalam Cinema. His interest in film-making led him to enroll at the Kalabharathi Film Institute in Thrissur.
Thrasam (1981), directed by Padiyan, gave him his start into the industry as a writer, but as a director, he is held in high regard by his peers.
