Kalpana's high profile career ended with her tragic suicide in 1979; in Gotur IB, near Sankeshwar, Belgaum district of Karnataka state. She was on her way to Kolhapur for her allegedly hushed up marriage with her beau. After his non-show to the marriage ceremony, Kalpana was so deeply depressed and heart-broken that she swallowed a diamond from her finger ring and committed suicide en route in her car.
