The “Kahuta” hills of the Rawalpindi district are supposed to have derived their name from the tribe, but no record of remains of them in that tract. About the year A.D.1359 their ancestor Said Nawab Ali migrated to Delhi,on the way he defeated a pagan king of Sialkot, named Sain Pal.On reaching Delhi they paid their respect to the king who ordered them to hold the Dhanni(in Chakwal) and the salt range on his behalf. They accordingly retraced their steps and settled at the foot of the Salt range.Realising the revenue from Janjuas and the Gujar graziers and remitting it to Delhi.Chaudri Sahnsar 8th in decent from Kahut, was their ancestor in the time of “Babar”. They may be considered to rank as Rajputs in social status. The Kahuts inter-marry to some extent with Mairs and Kassars and now and then with Awan, both giving and taking daughters. The re-marriage of widows is permitted. They have no special customs except that males will not wear blue clothes,or if they fall ill. In 1857 the tribe rendered good service and behaved well. They are bold men of independent character, and of good physique, keen sportsman and good riders. The tribe has no clans.
