Kachin People - Behaviour and Traditions

Behaviour and Traditions

The Kachin people are traditionally known for their fierce independence, disciplined fighting skills, complex clan inter-relations, craftsmanship, herbal healing and jungle survival skills. In recent decades, their animist beliefs have been largely supplanted by embrace of Christianity, while traditional animist emblems and pursuits have been largely re-directed into folkloric events such as the annual Manao festival in Myitkyina.

Famous quotes containing the words behaviour and, behaviour and/or traditions:

... into the novel goes such taste as I have for rational behaviour and social portraiture. The short story, as I see it to be, allows for what is crazy about humanity: obstinacies, inordinate heroisms, “immortal longings.”
    Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)

When we read of human beings behaving in certain ways, with the approval of the author, who gives his benediction to this behaviour by his attitude towards the result of the behaviour arranged by himself, we can be influenced towards behaving in the same way.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

But generally speaking philistinism presupposes a certain advanced state of civilization where throughout the ages certain traditions have accumulated in a heap and have started to stink.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)
