• ^† JDP is the official one according to the party itself, as documented in the third article of the party charter, while AKP is mostly preferred by its opponents; the supporters prefer "AK Party" since the word "ak" in Turkish means "white", "clean", or "unblemished," lending a positive impression. The Chief Public Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals initially used "AKP", but after an objection from the party, "AKP" was replaced with "Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi" (without abbreviation) in documents.
