Junius H. Rose High School

Junius H Rose High School (known colloquially as JH Rose, Rose High or simply Rose) is a comprehensive public high school in Greenville, North Carolina, in the Pitt County Schools system. Originally dedicated in 1957 on South Elm Street, it moved to its present location on Arlington Boulevard (the former Greenville Middle School) in 1992. Students that made up the original student body came from the former Greenville High School in downtown Greenville. Students from the former historically black C. M. Eppes High School were integrated in during the early 1970s.

J.H. Rose has a nationally recognized Advanced Placement (AP) program, cited by the Siemens Foundation as one of the top 50 US high schools for performance on science and math advanced placement tests in 2006-07 . Rose students have been recipients of honors such as the PSAT Merit Scholarship, Morehead Scholarship, Benjamin N. Duke Scholarship, Park Scholarship, and the Presidential Scholarship.

In 2011 the school received a 3 out of 10 rating from greatschools.org.

In 2005, the school was listed on Newsweek magazine's list of top high schools in the United States for the first time. In 2005, it was listed #645, #471 in 2006, and in 2007, #682. Typically, about 50 schools from North Carolina (primarily from the Charlotte, Research Triangle, and Piedmont Triad regions) make the list.

Famous quotes containing the words rose, high and/or school:

    Ballades by the score with the same old thought:
    The snows and the roses of yesterday are vanished;
    And what is love but a rose that fades?
    Edgar Lee Masters (1869–1950)

    Franceska: I was happy in the life I built up for myself. I put a fine high wall of music around me and nothing could touch me. I was safe and secure. And then you had to come along and knock it all down and I hate you for that.
    Maxwell: On the contrary, you love me.
    Muriel Box (b. 1905)

    There is nothing intrinsically better about a child who happily bounces off to school the first day and a child who is wary, watchful, and takes a longer time to separate from his parents and join the group. Neither one nor the other is smarter, better adjusted, or destined for a better life.
    Ellen Galinsky (20th century)
