Jumbo Frame

Jumbo Frame

In computer networking, jumbo frames are Ethernet frames with more than 1500 bytes of payload. Conventionally, jumbo frames can carry up to 9000 bytes of payload, but variations exist and some care must be taken when using the term. Many Gigabit Ethernet switches and Gigabit Ethernet network interface cards support jumbo frames. Some Fast Ethernet switches and Fast Ethernet network interface cards also support jumbo frames. Most national research and education networks (such as Internet2/NLR, ESnet, GÉANT, and AARNet) support jumbo frames, but most commercial Internet service providers do not.

Famous quotes containing the words jumbo and/or frame:

    I’m a priest, not a priestess.... “Priestess” implies mumbo jumbo and all sorts of pagan goings-on. Those who oppose us would love to call us priestesses. They can call us all the names in the world—it’s better than being invisible.
    Carter Heyward (b. 1946)

    He drew the curse upon the world, and cracked
    The whole frame with his fall.
    This made him long for home, as loth to stay
    With murmurers and foes;
    Henry Vaughan (1622–1695)
