Personal Life
Sands was born in Otley, West Riding of Yorkshire, a son of William Sands. He has four brothers, one of whom (Quentin Sands) was chosen by She magazine as "Britain's Sexiest Man" in 1988 .
He has been married twice:
- Sarah Harvey, a journalist, who divorced him in 1987 and married, as her second husband, Kit Fletcher. They have one child, Henry Morley Sands (born 1985).
- Evgenia Citkowitz, a writer (born 1964), a daughter of Irish writer Lady Caroline Blackwood and American composer and pianist Israel Citkowitz. They married in 1990 and have two daughters Natalya Morley Sands (b. 16 August 1996)and Imogen Morley Sands (b. 31 December 1999).
