Christian Humanism

Ukrainian-born painter Marie Bashkirtseff, known in Paris of that time as "the Slavic virgin" took her cue from the young artist's admiration for the true forms of reality and inspiration found in nature.

"I say nothing of the fields because Bastien-Lepage reigns over them as a sovereign; but the streets, however, have not still had their... Bastien".

By curious coincidence she succumbed to chronic illness prematurely in the same year, 1884.

Famous quotes containing the word christian:

All great amusements are dangerous to the Christian life; but among all those which the world has invented there is none more to be feared than the theater. It is a representation of the passions so natural and so delicate that it excites them and gives birth to them in our hearts, and, above all, to that of love.
    Blaise Pascal (1623–1662)
