Juan Rivera and older brother Osmaldo Rivera grew up and trained for baseball in Venezuela together. Juan was scouted at an early age of 16 years old, while his parents Rolondo and Rosemary stayed behind with his brother Osmaldo and younger sister Maria, to run a small family business. Famous quotes containing the word family:

The agent’s steep and steady stare
    Corroded to a grin.
Why, you black old, tough old hell of a man,
    Move your family in!
    Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)

    Joseph Featherstone (20th century)

The strongest bond of human sympathy, outside of the family relation, should be one uniting all working people, of all nations, and tongues, and kindreds.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
