Joses - Joses, Brother of Jesus

Joses, Brother of Jesus

Joses is only mentioned twice in the New Testament, in parallel passages in Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3, which record the people of Nazareth's rejection of Jesus:

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. Mark 6:3 ESV

A minority of (Alexandrian, Western) Greek manuscripts in Matthew 13:55 read "Joseph" (Ἰωσήφ) the standard spelling of the name.

Famous quotes containing the words brother and/or jesus:

If woman alone had suffered under these mistaken traditions [of women’s subordination], if she could have borne the evil by herself, it would have been less pitiful, but her brother man, in the laws he created and ignorantly worshipped, has suffered with her. He has lost her highest help; he has crippled the intelligence he needed; he has belittled the very source of his own being and dwarfed the image of his Maker.
    Clara Barton (1821–1912)

Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
    Bible: New Testament, Luke 23:40.

One of the criminals crucified with Jesus , to the other.
