Jorhat Engineering College is fully residential college having its campus spread over a land area of over 200 acres (0.81 km2). The campus nine student hostels including one girls hostel, with a total capacity of 900. About 80% of the staff, both teaching and supporting, live on the campus which has a hospital with a resident doctor, a co-operative store, one Primary school, a number of playgrounds and an auditorium. The campus is at the distance of four kilometers from the heart of the city. It is well-connected by the college bus services, auto rickshaws, etc. The college canteen provides refreshment facilities and there is a shopping centre adjacent to the campus. The college has its water supply system and its sufficient for the student community.

About 2 years back, Tarun Gogoi, the Chief Minister of Assam, laid the foundation for the new college building. He also put forward plans to set up an autonomous council to govern the college, which lead to widespread protests by the students, who feared such a step might increase the changes of corruption in the administration and also bring about a hike in the tution fees.
